Super 10 lead battery listed companies have been rectified

On August 4, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced on August 2 the results of the investigation and rectification of the nation's lead battery industry (Huanfa [2011] No. 41). Nearly 2,000 lead battery manufacturers failed to meet the standards. According to preliminary statistics, among them, there are more than 10 listed companies involved. From the recent stock price performance, most of them have experienced different degrees of decline.

The list of companies listed on the Environmental Protection Department includes A-share listed companies, camel shares, Fengfan shares, KSTAR, Shengyang shares, Nandu Power, Wolong Electric, and ST. In addition, the list also includes Tianneng Power, Chaowei Power, and Leoch International listed on the Hong Kong stock market, and Jiangsu Shuangdeng, which is listed overseas.

The industry generally believes that this “environmental protection storm” from the central government to the local government will lead to the reshuffle of the lead-acid battery industry, and leading companies in the industry will usher in new opportunities.

Dragged down by the industry consolidation, the stock price fell. Affected by the list announced by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, today's stock market performance, KSTAR fell 3.13%, camel shares fell 1.2%. The performance of the Hong Kong stock market was even more fierce. After Tianneng Power lost 13.3% this morning, it stopped trading at 11:13. The reason for this was not yet known, and Leoch lost 4.01%.

In fact, as early as May of this year, news of shutting down hundreds of lead-acid battery companies in Zhejiang and Guangdong spread to the A-share market. On May 23, Wolong Electric and KSTAR fell 3.75% and 7.48%, respectively, while ST Wanli was blocked daily limit.

The industry leader Camel Co., Ltd. issued an announcement on August 1 st that the first and second battery expansion production lines of the company's Shihua Plant involved in the relocation had normal operation on July 1. The third and fourth battery expansion production lines have been operating normally on July 30. .

At the same time, the announcement stated that all investment projects to be raised will be completed and the production capacity of the Camel Industrial Park will reach 13.5 million to 14 million KVAH, making it the world's largest lead battery monomer production base.

Tencent Finance telephoned the relevant staff of the Office of camel shares, and the other party said that the industry consolidation was indeed good news for the company, but for further news, the other said that due to the business trip of the secretary, it will give a reply as soon as possible.

Previously, according to the investigation results of the environmental protection department, of the six major lead pollution incidents that occurred in China in 2010, nearly half were caused by lead-acid battery companies. Since then, lead-acid battery companies have become one of the key industries under the supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Industry reshuffle intensified lead-acid batteries are mainly used for power, standby and energy storage. According to the distribution, the current domestic battery bases concentrated in Zhejiang Changxing, Baoding, Hebei, Guangdong Pearl River Delta, Fujian Quanzhou, Henan Jiyuan, Jiangsu North Shandong Jiaodong Peninsula.

According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection on August 2, among the 1,930 lead battery companies that were examined, 639 were engaged in battery production, 1,105 were simply assembled, and the remaining 186 were recycling companies, of which only a total of 252 companies continue to produce, and another 80 plants are still under construction, which means that the “mortality rate” of the investigated production line exceeds 80%.

Since this year, the frequent incidents of excessive blood lead levels in Zhejiang, Guangdong and other places have aroused strong concern in the lead battery industry. This industry rectification has also become the top priority for this year's national environmental protection special action.

In March 2011, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the National Development and Reform Commission and other departments of the State Council jointly issued the “Notice on Further Implementing the Special Campaign for Remediation of Illegal Polluting Enterprises to Protect People's Health in 2011” (Huan Fa [2011] No. 41). The battery enterprise's rectification as the 2011 environmental protection special action's primary task, requires the lead storage battery industry enterprise to carry on the thorough investigation, comprehensively remedies the environmental violation problem.

According to the Asian Battery Association report, China's domestic lead-acid battery market increased from 54.0 million kVAh in 2005 to 166.5 million kVAh in 2010, a compound annual growth rate of 25.26%, making it the world's largest lead battery producer. It is estimated that by 2015, the output value of lead-acid batteries will reach 70 billion yuan.

However, on the other hand, the current domestic lead-acid battery manufacturing companies have very different levels, some adopting the world's most advanced production lines, and some are still behind the hand-workroom type of backward technology, less than 200 enterprises above designated size, and small-scale enterprises account for 90%. the above.

According to the research report of China CITIC Securities, short-term suspension of production has little effect on the supply of the industry, because most companies have inventories. In the long run, the elimination of SMEs will lead to further increase in industry concentration.

Leading companies will become beneficiaries Hua Long Securities analyst Peng Jian told Tencent that the rectification of the lead battery industry is positive for the industry's leading companies, because the overall market demand has not changed, but the supply has decreased, and thus the price will rise. Therefore, it is good news for listed companies that meet environmental indicators.

Peng Jian pointed out that the requirements of the Ministry of Environmental Protection are not easy to meet, and only the enterprises of the upper scale have the financial resources to relocate the factory buildings.

Starting in late June, some small and medium-sized battery companies raised the ex-factory price, and then the ex-factory price of large-scale lead-acid battery companies also rose by 10-15%. The report pointed out that from the current market feedback, it is not just a matter of raising prices, but that lead-acid batteries are not available.

An analyst who declined to be named said that the lead storage battery industry is a “sunset industry” that has gradually declined and there are very few people in the securities research department who are dedicated to this industry.

As a substitute for lead-acid batteries, the development of lithium batteries is promising, but the problem of high cost has not been solved. For example, at present, the price of an electric bicycle on the market is about 1,300 yuan, while the use of lithium battery electric bicycle is sold to 2,500 yuan, nearly doubled. Peng Jian pointed out that due to the problem of high cost, lithium batteries do not appear to replace lead batteries in 5-10 years.

Huatai Securities also said in its research report that although it is highly toxic during processing, lead batteries are still widely used in industry, especially in the field of automotive start-up batteries, due to their low cost, large capacity, high power, and safety and reliability. And in a certain period of time is difficult to be replaced by other battery technologies.

Listed companies are increasingly tightening environmental protection supervision The Ministry of Environmental Protection announced that lead storage battery companies are the first time to disclose to the public all types of pollution companies. Lead-acid battery listed companies were implicated in the rectification of the environmental protection department. The stock price fell. It seems that the listed company's environmental protection regulations are increasingly tightening.

As early as the first half of 2008, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the China Securities Regulatory Commission respectively issued the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Supervision and Administration of the Environmental Protection of Listed Companies" and the "Notice on Application Documents for the IPO Application of Heavy Pollution Industry Production and Operation Companies," and officially launched the "Listing." Environmental verification system.

According to the regulations, companies engaged in thirteen heavily polluting industries such as metallurgy and iron and steel must obtain green “tickets” before going public – through environmental protection verification listed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Otherwise, the SFC will not accept applications for listing.

It is understood that the environmental issues of listed companies, especially the post-listing environmental supervision, will become the breakthrough point for the next “green securities” policy. The rectification of the lead storage battery industry can be said to provide a good model for this purpose.
